Ken Goa was one of the first employees of GGCC, a young man who believed in the vision of GGCC when it was still a dream in the making. He started as a casual worker, trekking daily from the mountain to the site, tirelessly clearing the land, building fences, and collecting construction materials. Sand from Takawiri Island, stones from Sindo, cement from Mbita—Ken carried it all, often at great personal risk. One harrowing day, he nearly drowned while transporting 50 bags of cement from Mbita. Yet, he never complained. His strength, humility, and willingness to serve in even the most challenging tasks—whether farming, cleaning, or draining septic tanks—set him apart.
Ken’s punctuality and reliability are unmatched. Despite the long journey from the mountain, he is always on time, ready to serve. Over the years, he has taken on the responsibility of managing GGCC’s stores, a role he performs with diligence and care. He loves GGCC deeply, protecting and defending its resources as if they were his own. His humility and eagerness to learn have made him a beloved and respected member of the team.
“I value him and respect him,” says Madam Nerea. “Ken is a big blessing to GGCC. His life is a testament to what it means to serve with faith, humility, and unwavering commitment.”
Ken’s journey with GGCC began in 2002, but his story of resilience and faith started long before. Born into a family with limited means, Ken faced significant challenges early in life. After completing his national examinations in 1998, he was unable to continue his education due to a lack of school fees. While his peers moved on to secondary school, Ken felt the sting of disappointment deeply. He moved to Sindo in the mainland to live with his aunt, where he took up farming. It was during this time that he encountered Jesus and gave his life to Christ in 1999.
Returning home to care for his younger siblings, Ken became an active member of his local church. It was there that he met Naphtaly Mattah, a man of God who introduced him to GGCC. Ken attended the ground-breaking ceremony of GGCC and was immediately drawn to its mission and vision. He applied to be one of the pioneer workers, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Over the years, Ken has grown from a casual worker to a permanent employee, now serving as the Stores and maize-mill Attendant. His journey has been marked by milestones that reflect not only his personal growth but also the impact of GGCC on his life and the lives of others. He has funded the education of his three siblings, his children, and many extended family members. He transformed his mother’s home from a grass-thatched, muddy house to a semi-permanent structure. He has also contributed significantly to the development of his local church.

Ken shared that he has witnessed tremendous growth and change in GGCC and the lives of the people of Mfangano Island through the work of the organization. He recalled that, in the early days, he saw many individuals and families struggling, with children facing immense hardships due to the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS. However, through GGCC’s interventions, he has observed a complete transformation—hope has been restored where there was once despair.
Ken proudly shared that he has seen countless children who had lost all hope grow into vital, contributing members of society. One particularly touching example is Lameck Orondo, a GGCC alumnus who is now a doctor. Ken was once treated by Lameck, a moment that filled him with immense pride and joy. He also expressed his happiness at meeting many other alumni who have made something meaningful out of the opportunities God granted them through GGCC.
“It brings me great joy,” Ken said, “to see how GGCC has not only changed lives but also empowered individuals to give back to their communities. This is the true impact of God’s work through this organization.”

Ken’s work at GGCC has been instrumental in its growth. He was part of the team that expanded the garden, witnessed countless children progress through their education, and supported their spiritual development. “Gethsemane Garden Christian Centre is more than just a workplace,” Ken says. “It is hope for many families and children in our community. I am proud to be part of an organization that changes lives and uplifts the community.”
Ken’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact those who give towards GGCC’s Mission and vision has on individuals, families, and the entire community. Through God’s provision, GGCC has provided hope to countless orphans, offering them food, shelter, education, and spiritual guidance. It has empowered employees like Ken to grow professionally and personally, giving them opportunities they never thought possible. It has instilled a deep sense of purpose and service in everyone who walks through its doors.
“To the brothers and sisters from the USA, may God bless you abundantly,” Ken says. “Your unwavering support has played a significant role in my journey. I appreciate the opportunities for growth and learning that have come my way, and I look forward to many more years of serving this incredible community alongside you.”
Ken Goa’s life is a testament to the transformative power of faith, service, and community. His story is not just his own—it is a reflection of the countless lives GGCC has touched because of your support. Through Ken, we see the heart of GGCC: a place where hope is restored, lives are transformed, and God’s love is made visible every single day.
